Cooking Smash Burgers on Your Griddle

Smash burgers are a popular style of burger that are cooked on a griddle, resulting in a thin, crispy crust and juicy, flavorful center. If you have a Blackstone griddle, you have everything you need to make delicious smash burgers right in your own backyard. Here's how to do it:

Ingredients:

  • Ground beef (80/20 blend is recommended)

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • American cheese (optional)

  • Buns

  • Toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.)

  • Condiments (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your Blackstone griddle to high heat. You want it to be hot enough to create a sear on the burger patty.

  2. Divide your ground beef into small portions. A 1/4 pound of meat makes for a good-sized smash burger, but you can adjust the size to your preference.

  3. Roll each portion of ground beef into a ball. You don't need to worry about forming a perfect patty yet.

  4. Season each ball of meat with salt and pepper. Be generous with the seasoning, as it will create a flavorful crust.

  5. Place the balls of meat on the hot griddle, leaving plenty of space between each one. Use a spatula or a metal scraper to flatten each ball of meat into a thin patty.

  6. Let the burgers cook for 2-3 minutes, or until a crust has formed on the bottom of the patty. Don't be tempted to flip the burger too soon, or it will fall apart.

  7. Once the crust has formed, use a spatula to flip the burger over. Add a slice of American cheese to each patty, if desired.

  8. Cook the burgers for another 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the burger is cooked to your preferred level of doneness.

  9. Remove the burgers from the griddle and place them on a bun. Top with your desired toppings and condiments.

  10. Serve the smash burgers immediately, while they are still hot and crispy.

Tips:

  • Don't overcrowd the griddle. Leave plenty of space between each patty to ensure that they cook evenly.

  • Use a metal scraper to flatten the burgers. This will help create a thin, crispy crust.

  • Don't press down on the burgers while they're cooking. This will squeeze out the juices and result in a dry, overcooked burger.

  • Experiment with different toppings and condiments to find your favorite combination.

  • You can also use a mix of ground beef and ground pork for a more flavorful burger.

Making smash burgers on a Blackstone griddle is a quick and easy way to enjoy a delicious, restaurant-quality burger in the comfort of your own backyard. With a few simple ingredients and some basic cooking techniques, you can create a burger that is sure to impress. So fire up the griddle and get ready to smash some burgers!
